Have you ever been shopping found, the most perfect outfit
/ dress for your little person, got it home popped it out the
bag only to find that your poppet doesn't like it, hates the
colour and will 'never ever wear it!'
Why do you bother, you never had the option when you
were a child, you were lucky to get clothes bought for you!
We've all been there, so what are the golden rules when buying
clothes for your children -
Well obviously each child is different with their own tastes, likes
and dislikes but there are a few tips to help when buying:-
. comfort is always paramount and this is probably the key when buying
for any child under the age of 10 years, soft fabrics and easy access.
I think this is even more key when buying for young boys.
. never underestimate colour - when your child is in a pink or yellow phase
it can be sole destroying when you know that their beautiful auburn hair
clashes terribly - but a perfectly added pink applique design on a deep
green t'shirt could quite happily find itself added to the wardrobe.
. a perfect pair of flowery combat boots added to skinny jeans and a t'shirt
could add just a hint of the feminine to that tom boy look she loves so much.
Be aware of their likes but be influenced by them not ruled by them.
. as they get a little older and outside influences from school etc become stronger
it really is a case of teaching them some valuable lessons about what looks good -
I know, easier said than done but if the French can do it so can we.
remember that there are always interpretations on a fashion - teach
your children to be individuals - yes of course they want to look
trendy so look out for a few key items that can be put together to make
interesting variations - a pretty dress that can also look good over
jeans or leggings - a shirt that can layer up over t'shirts or polo
shirts in contrasting colour - give them something to think about,
teach them to look at clothes as a fun way of expressing themselves.
If we catch them early our children won't have the same problems that
we did as teenages - making those awful mistakes with colour
combinations - they will grow up being able to make confident choices -
so listen to them but after all we know best..
and if all else fails - well there's always blackmail!!!!
